Safety Education Can Make a Difference to Your Team

While CBS ArcSafe® describes ourself as an electrical safety company, electrical shock is not the primary human risk of an arc-flash incident. Burns suffered from heat-related injuries, such as those caused by shrapnel and from inhaling vaporized metals, top the list.

A severe burn is a terrible and debilitating injury, and the first week of February is National Burn Awareness Week. This is a prime opportunity for burn-care organizations, burn survivor support groups, public safety workers, and company injury-prevention professionals to remind people how to avoid burn injuries. It is also a time to educate the public and employees about advances in burn care.

Take this time to learn more with materials from the American Burn Association and talk to your team this month about burn prevention.

Administrative Controls Provide Oversight for Safe Environments

CBS ArcSafe frequently cites the Hierarchy of Hazard Control system to explain that remote switching and remote racking devices serve as engineering controls that isolate workers from arc-flash hazards. According to the hierarchy, elimination of the arc-flash hazard is the absolute best control measure; the use of wearable PPE is the least effective measure. Engineering controls are the third most-effective hazard control measures. Although remote switching and racking are engineering controls when correctly used, there still must be an administrative control (no. 4 in the hierarchy) to influence and direct the processes that workers use. The administrative control ensures that workers carry out the safest possible procedures, which may include the use of remote switching and racking solutions Learn more.

See Extractor-Style Remote Racking Solutions In Action!

The CBS ArcSafe RRS-2 and RRS-2 BE are universal extraction-style (push/pull) remote racking systems for motor control centers and nonrotary circuit breaker racking mechanisms, all employed at a safe distance for operators. Each extractor remote racking system, with its specially manufactured drive shaft and couplings, is designed to accommodate numerous types of circuit breakers and motor control center (MCC) buckets that do not use jack screw rotary mechanisms for insertion and extraction.
